WASHINGTON — Patients Rising Executive Director Terry Wilcox today released the following statement regarding the introduction of The Protecting Health Care for All Patients Act by Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), Jim Banks (IN-03) and Brad Wenstrup (OH-02). The bill would ban the use of the Quality Adjusted Life Year (QALY) in federal programs.

“If there is one single thing Congress could do this year that would absolutely create real systemic change for Americans with chronic disease, it would be to pass this bill and get rid of the discriminatory metric that allows the government to decide what our lives are worth.

Patients have the right to be treated in policy like human beings, not discriminated against from the start. We applaud these members for standing up for patients’ rights.”
