HELP Act First Step to Patient-Centric Health Insurance Design

WASHINGTON — Patients Rising Executive Director Terry Wilcox today released the following statement applauding the introduction of the bipartisan Help Ensure Lower Patient (HELP) Copays Act by U.S. Representatives Rodney Davis (R-IL) and A. Donald McEachin (D-VA):

“We live in a remarkable time for medical advancements, and our country leads the rest of the world in medical innovation. But none of that matters if patients walk out of pharmacies empty-handed, forgoing life-sustaining medication. The sad truth is that healthcare design and delivery in this country is woefully antiquated.

The HELP Act will help to shore up that discordance by lowering out-of-pocket costs for medication and providing needed financial relief to our country’s sickest and most vulnerable. It’s a crucial step in creating patient-centric health insurance policies. The 144 million Americans living with chronic illness – one third of America – desperately need this legislation to be passed into law now.”
