PATIENTS RISING NOW SUBMITS COMMENTS ON PATENT RIGHTS TO UNITED STATES PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE
WASHINGTON — Patients Rising Now CEO Terry Wilcox recently submitted public comments on the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Initiatives to Ensure the Robustness and Reliability of Patent Rights.
The comments detail how the patent system incentivizes new research and development for chronic disease treatments, with real-life examples of historical breakthroughs, such as AZT for the HIV/AIDs community, and details how patients benefit from competition among patents.
“Patients who are waiting for cures and treatments can’t focus their limited energy on any ownership dispute over patents, or even the laws and processes for adjudication of those patents, or the regulations around follow-on patents — as essential as these questions are,” said Wilcox. “But if we are doing it right, patients will hold close to them a trust and confidence in the patent system — so they can devote their energy for the fight of their lives.”
