Patients Rising Now joined several other organizations in sending a letter to the Texas House of Representatives in support of a bill that would increase patient access to supplemental Medicare plans referred to as Medigap plans. In the current system, patients who become Medicare eligible by turning 65 automatically become eligible to enroll in Medigap plans. However, if a patient were to become Medicare eligible because of a disease diagnosis such as ALS or End-Stage Renal Disease, they do not receive the same eligibility to enroll in Medigap plans. HB 1803 in Texas’ House of Representatives would correct this problem and ensure all Medicare patients have equal access to Medigap plans. This legislation is moving quickly throughout the chamber and has been widely supported at each step. If you live in Texas, we encourage you to send your State Representative a letter urging their support today.
