NATIONAL PATIENT ADVOCACY GROUP:
CONGRESS MUST STOP INSURERS FROM DOUBLE-DIPPING INTO PATIENT WALLETS
WASHINGTON — Patients Rising Now CEO Terry Wilcox today released the following statement regarding the bipartisan Senate introduction of the Help Ensure Lower Patient (HELP) Copays Act:
“Patients are grateful to the bipartisan group of Senators for introducing the HELP Copays Act, which will ensure patients have access to the lifesaving medicine they need. No longer should we see greedy pharmacy benefit managers profit off the exclusion of cost-sharing assistance for patients’ out-of-pocket costs.
When it comes to copay accumulator programs, the only groups who win are insurance companies and PBMs who get paid twice: once at the pharmacy counter and again when a patient puts money towards their deductible. It is time to change the laws that allow middlemen to profit on the backs of people suffering from rare and chronic illnesses.”
