Virtual Advocacy Chat Presents: A Town Hall with Jim Sliney Jr. – Discrimination Against Disabled Students in Higher Learning
August 25 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Joelle’s Virtual Advocacy Chat is handing the “camera” over to our own Jim Sliney Jr. for a very special virtual town hall to talk about Discrimination Against Disabled Students in Higher Learning.
The #PatientsRisingFam is diverse, but one thread that runs through most of it is the presence of a disability. For those with disabilities partaking in higher learning, there is a tendency to encounter a lack of cooperation with institutions. So we’re going to talk about what makes “reasonable accommodations” for students with disabilities looks like and how it might work.
We’ll explore what the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 have to say, and hear what YOU have to say. Hopefully, we all walk away with a bit more knowledge on how to advocate for the rights of disabled students in higher education.
Features of the Town Hall:
- An open floor to share your experience with disability accommodations in higher learning – this is practice for how to talk about your issues (limited to 3-minutes per person)
- Shared links to reliable resources on the topic.
- What steps you can take if you are being discriminated against.
